It started with a dream the artist had when she returned to Curaçao 13 years ago: The dream was about my mother retiring after 27 years of work, including 25 years as director of a home for teenage mothers. Instead of a pension, she received a piece of barren, dry, rocky land. And then I discovered four large raw diamonds in that land — green, blue-green, pink and purple — which I understood as representing you, your mother, your father and your sister. I have later brought those diamonds into my draings and collages, and eventually the hexagon became my way of representing them: a structure capable of containing something precious, memories, or found treasure.
